More About Implant Technology
A controlled advanced smooth surface that improves biocompatibility
After a decade of ongoing investment in research, Motiva® continues to drive scientific understanding of the factors that determine the body’s response to implants, and that the complications associated with traditional macrotextured implants outweighed their benefits.
Our unique SmoothSilk®/SilkSurface® technology is designed for your body to feel and stay healthy, minimizing inflammation and its related complications.1
All the information you should know about the implants, kept safely through Qid®, a battery-free and passive Radiofrequency Identification Device (RFID)
So you never have to worry about losing your implant information, this optional, built-in digital passport allows for instant verification of important implant information at any time after surgery, obtained through non-invasive, passive radiofrequency reading device.2
Normally, implants come with a barrier layer which is meant to prevent gel bleed inside the body, but because of its color surgeons cannot check if it is intact before using it.
BluSeal® is a blue-tinted visual safety barrier, only available with Motiva®, that allows surgeons to visually ensure the implant shell’s integrity before using it.
The flex is real
Our proprietary multi-layer system unifies the implant’s structure allowing it to bend and squeeze for an easier implant insertion through smaller incisions.
With TrueMonobloc®, the shell-gel-patch components of the implant are structured to minimize the risk of ruptures during surgery.
New formulas for enhanced ergonomy and feel
Motiva SuperSilicones® is a high-strength silicone dispersion with a unique set of rheological properties3 that provides a better adaptation to change than other silicone gels tested, resembling the movement of natural tissue. This is used in the shell of ERGONOMIX2®.
In addition, we applied ergonomics principles to the design of our own proprietary gels for a soft look and feel:4
- ProgressiveGel® Plus for structure without compromising softness (used in MOTIVA® ROUND and ANATOMICAL TRUEFIXATION®).
- ProgressiveGel Ultima® for to move naturally with your body, readily adapting to follow your movements (used in ERGONOMIX®).
Motiva® Implants Safety & Performance Data
Safety and performance data collected through post-market surveillance confirm that SmoothSilk®/SilkSurface® contributes to improved post-operative outcomes with fewer high- and low-risk complications.
Multiple independent peer-reviewed studies with Evidence Levels 3 and 4, including well-designed case-control, cohort studies, and non-randomized controlled trials with Motiva® Implants, have been published in leading plastic surgery journals. These studies report low device-related complications (0 % – 2 %), and high patient satisfaction, with patient follow-up ranging from six months to six years.5-18
The most recent study shows that implant surface can influence foreign body immune-related complications, such as capsular contracture, malposition, seroma, double capsule and BIA-ALCL. This study determined that Motiva SmoothSilk®/SilkSurface®, among the surfaces studied, enhanced biocompatibility. The surface was associated with a healthy tissue capsule and showed less inflammation overall, which are key factors for optimal patient recovery.1
FAQ
It is important to note that although you may have a desires cup size in mind, the choice of your breast implant size should be made on your anatomy. Choosing a breast implant too big or too small can affect the long-term results of your surgery and the aesthetic appearance. Therefore, choosing a breast implant that is as close to your desired cup size, but within your anatomical parameters is key to long term results and breast appearance. It is important to discuss your goals and implant choices in consultation with your surgeon before assuming a certain implant type is the best option for you.
Your surgeon will provide you with aftercare instructions which must be followed to ensure optimum results. Although surgical instructions vary, it is usually recommended to avoid driving and heavy lifting in the first few weeks, avoid strenuous exercise for 6 weeks, and maintain your surgical bra for 6 weeks.
Your breasts may be swollen for several weeks after surgery, and it may take up to several months for your breasts to fully settle into their final position. Do not be alarmed if one breast heals quicker than the other, this is common and will settle. For more information on post-operative recovery and tips on aftercare, visit our post-surgery blogs.
Breast implants are not lifetime devices. However, the life expectancy of a silicone breast implant cannot be precisely estimated or guaranteed, as there are many factors beyond the manufacturer’s control that can affect the longevity of a device.
The time period varies from patient to patient. Some patients could need replacement surgery within a few years after the primary procedure, while others can have their implants intact for 10 years or longer.
As with all surgical procedures, there are a few cases in which breast augmentation might not be right for you or just not right at this time, and it all depends on your health and current lifestyle. However, with that said, most women are excellent candidates for breast augmentation. With Motiva® exclusive designed surgeries and comprehensive product portfolio, you have the choice of many options to meet your individual needs and desires.
Gaining a good understanding of your surgeons’ credentials and technical skills in surgery can help avoid a poor result and a journey of mishaps. It is OK to ask “What are your qualifications and skills?”
While many doctors can perform a breast augmentation, not all these surgeons specialize in breast surgery, resulting in poor results. Choosing a surgeon who has excellent experience in breast surgery can maximize your aesthetic results and minimize the risk of post-operative complications. Requesting before and after pictures can help you gain a good understanding of the surgeon’s work.
